The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre’s (PPC) Exercise Department supported the German Response Force Operations Command during Exercise European Endeavor 2008 in its role as the Force Headquarters of the European Union Battle Group II-2008. This command post exercise was a follow-on to Exercises Clever Lion 2005 and European Endeavour 2006 in which the German Armed Forces undertook the initial operational and the full operational capabilities certification of its contributions to the European Battle Group program. The specific scenario was based upon the PPC’s Salmo Peace Operations Training Scenario, and took place in the fictitious country of Fontinalis. The exercise focused on the comprehensive approach taken within a complex environment in a post conflict elections security mission. For the first time, the European Gendarmerie Force participated in a European Union exercise based upon an international response scenario.
Throughout the exercise, the training audience was exposed to an environment that mirrors reality in a stabilization mission. The situations portrayed criminal activities, security threats and civil society issues within a post conflict elections framework, all under the scrutiny of the media. Along with daily newspapers giving a national and international perspective to the conditions in Fontinalis and an international news website, an evening news broadcast was created, depicting the top stories of the day.
Disclaimer: This news broadcast was filmed during the exercise European Endeavor 2008. All events and individuals portrayed were taking part in role-playing activities and do not depict real events.
